| Makin' Tracks was established
1989 by David Mckinna. Who started out by helping a few friends with curtain
tracks and fitting them in their homes. This then led to working with a
number of interior designers and curtain makers around Hook, Hampshire and
the Surrey area. David built an excellent reputation for quality
curtain track fitting, at an excellent price. Man and a van worked well
for many years. Many customers became more like friends than customers
to David.
In 2001 David was looking to retire and end Makin' Tracks. Mark Collins
had already taken an interest in the fitting side of the business that
David had built up over the years. So rather than let a good business
end, Mark with his engineering background took over in a part time roll.
Since there were only a limited number of good track fitters in the area.
The loss of David would have affected a number of companies who relied
on his fitting skills and experience.
Mark is an Apprentice trained fitter with 13 years experience. Mainly
in large industry, manufacturing all sorts of hardware for industry, like
fitting heavy lifting beams and bolting them underground to ceilings to
take anything up to 4 tons lifting capacity. This meant testing the newly
fitted equipment to twice the safe working load, 8 tons....
Having worked in the Specialist team, which dealt with all repairs
or projects out side of normal working duties. Which varied from repairing
a vandalized door, rebuilding a broken gearbox to building experimental
test rigs. This has given Mark a broad range of skills which are suited
to the fitting of curtain tracks, poles, blinds and much more. Mark's
love for classic cars see's him doing most of the work him self as this
again drives forward with new challenges and skills, like building this
web site from scratch. Rather than listen to all the "gobble de gook"about
how difficult it is to do. Makin' tracks has been involved in the development
of curtain pole fittings and track fitting products with a few manufactures
since he saw that the products could be improved rather than just made
do with.
Difficult houses where the walls are not too sound,
have been an area Makin' Tracks exceeds due to our experience and understanding
of building construction. New build houses continue to offer new problems
for fitting but have not hindered our work.
Makin' Tracks is a growing company. 2004 saw our growth area in the
sales side of curtain poles, blinds, tracks, curtains and furniture. This
is set to carry on in 2005 with a new range of ready made curtains ,made
to measure curtains, blinds , furniture and carpets. Makin' Tracks is
set to develop in to a company that can offer you the home owner a package
to suit your needs in many ways
Our top seller in 2004 was our new and exciting
range of wooden Venetian blinds. Available in a huge range of colours
and styles. From Contract to Bespoke. Our prices have had our customers
wanting more blinds!!
